The Leineschloss

The Lower Saxony State Parliament has been based in Hanover’s Leineschloss (or Leine Palace) since 1962. Elected representatives from all over Lower Saxony convene here for plenary sessions, committee and parliamentary group meetings. The building also provides offices for parliamentary group staff and the State Parliament’s administrative body. The building is located on the bank of the river Leine, and its architecture bears testimony to the historical changes over the past centuries. Virtually no other edifice reflects the story of Lower Saxony, its capital city and citizens in such a special way. In a sense, the Leineschloss and its more recent history also symbolise the change in how political power is exercised in Germany. Today, this erstwhile hub of absolute power by a ruling prince is home to a democratically elected body, the Lower Saxony State Parliament.
